Monsoon Special: Easy Tips To Tackle Most Common Skin Woes

We all love the monsoons as long as our skin doesn’t get affected by it. During the monsoon season, the humidity level escalates causing skin problems and allergies. This weather also triggers excessive oil secretion in the body and leads to itching which may further facilitate skin and hair related issues including bacterial and fungal infections. Stay tuned to this post to find solutions to most common monsoon woes when it comes to skin, hair and hygiene.

  1. A rainy or cloudy day doesn’t mean your skin is safe from the harmful ultra-violet rays of the sun. Use a good sunscreen which is water-proof and has a minimum SPF 30.
  2. Opt for double cleansing as it will help in removing all the excess dirt and grime due to increased humidity and sweat.
  3. Drink lots of water to keep your body wary of toxins leading to acne and pimples.
  4. If you have oily skin then moisturizers that are water or gel based are a great option to help keep oil secretion in check.
  5. Monsoon is not the time to experiment with artificial jewellery especially if you have sensitive skin. The humidity in the air will increase the risk of a breakout.
  6. Invest in a good toner. The importance of toning cannot be underplayed, especially in monsoon when a lot of airborne and waterborne are unleashed upon your skin. Incorporate the use of an anti-bacterial toner in your daily night skin care regime to restore your skin’s pH and to prevent breakout and infections.
  7. Lastly, make most of home-made face packs especially multani mitti (fullers earth). You can check out #diywednesdays on my Instagram for some amazing home remedies.

Now that we’ve talked about the skincare needs for monsoon, let’s not forget that your feet are exposed to the rains too. Monsoon can lead to smelly feet, fungal infections and various kinds of allergies if one is not careful. This is the time when you need to put in a little more effort to take care of your feet and keep them clean. Here are some easy tips for you to keep your feet looking clean this rainy season:

  1. Hygiene is most important to avoid fungal infections during monsoon. Damp feet, socks and shoes during the rains can lead to many skin related foot problems. So make sure they are dry and neat at all times. Keep your shoes out in the sun for a day if they get soaked in the rain to avoid any fungal growth and infections.
  2. Deep cleanse your feet once a week with a DIY. Soak your feet in hot water with salt or mild shampoo for 15 minutes. This kills all bacteria and softens the skin. You can also use bath salts and essential oils to reduce pain and exfoliate your feet too. Follow it up with a foot cream.
  3. During the monsoon season, a smart thing to do is to keep your nails short. It will prevent dust and dirt from getting collected under your nails, which may lead to fungal infections.
  4. Ditch your high heels and sneakers for flip flops and sandals. In such footwear, the water gets washed out easily, evaporating quickly and making your feet dry. You can also try out footwear with anti-sweat soles to keep your feet dry.
  5. Lastly, if you want to pamper your feet you can even opt for a foot spa Voted by Vogue Magazine as the top brand for all foot treatments, our Margaret Dabb’s foot spa is a rejuvenating foot spa, where we use the choicest of ingredients that help you relax.
